Postpartum Care.

For the first weeks after birth, we’ve got you covered.

FAQs

What does postpartum care look like?

We see you as soon as you have your delivery and up to 6 weeks. We provide home visits every 1-2 days for the first week, then two clinic visits every 2 weeks afterwards, at either 3 or 4 weeks and then a final discharge visit at the 6 week mark. These visits include well checks for you & baby.

  • For you, blood pressure assessments, vaginal delivery & CS recovery checks, hands-on feeding support, emotional well being assessments.

  • For baby: regular weight checks, feeding plans, exams.

  • Streamlined referrals to specialists, including lactation consultants, are available as needed for either/both.

What happens after 6 weeks?

At 6 weeks your care will be transferred back to your GP or NP. If you do not have one, we can refer to you a Primary Care Provider.

How do I register for postpartum care?

Since you are being seen by another provider for your Pregnancy & Labour care you can SELF-REFER to Canopy Health for your Postpartum Care at anytime. Submit this postpartum intake form (using a computer, not a phone) any time during your pregnancy or just after you deliver. Once we have received your form, you can expect a call from us to confirm receipt, typically within a few days if you are close to your due date, or within a few weeks if you’re further out. At this time we will collect some information from you & give you next steps to get your Postpartum Plan in place & make your visits as seamless as possible after your birth.

Can I be seen for postpartum care even if I haven’t been seen by Canopy for my pregnancy or birth? What if I was seen by a doctor or specialist?

Yes. We can take care of you and your baby from birth to 6-8 weeks postpartum, even if you were seen by another care provider for your pregnancy and birth.

Is there a fee for postpartum midwifery care?

Like prenatal and birth care, postpartum care is also covered if you have a BC Care Card. However, if you are not currently covered by BC Medical, you can pay privately. Please inquire here for cost.
